In 1970, this structure was designed by architect Carl Pruscha as the Taragaon Hostel, which over the years, inevitably succumbed to neglect, until it was restored as a museum and subsequently rediscovered as Taragaon Next – a dynamic cultural center with exhibition galleries, contemporary art spaces, a library, a museum, and archival collections open to all scholars.

Sagarmatha Next facilitates research on sustainable practices, ecology, and grassroot education interventions. In collaboration with EcoHimal Nepal, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, and the Himalayan Museum and Sustainable Park, we constructed this center with thepurpose to preserve the local textures of the Khumbu region amidst growing concerns on our carbon footprint.

Established in 2016, the Nepal Architecture Archive (NAA) is a unique repository of research conducted by national and international scholars and practitioners on the built landscape of Nepal across time.

The most crucial component of Taragaon Next forms our series of lectures that began in 2014, with a discussion on Niels Gutschow’s book launch.
